Victoria Monet San Diego Concert reviews
Horrible Sound Levels
The show producers had the sound levels turned up to the point of distortion, way way past the norm. Everything was distorted and muddled, not just the level, unlike other loud shows I've attended. Some people may have confused the venue, but the premier Fox venue in town usually doesn't have this issue, based on my numerous visits here.
The sound was deafening from the opener onward as we walked in. Initially, we attributed it to the opener's style, which we didn't care for. The higher-pitched sounds were resonating poorly. When Victoria Monet took the stage, the problem became clearer. Her voice was consistently loud and high-pitched, making vocals indiscernible. Coupled with energetic musical segments, it was difficult to distinguish anything. We tried different seats, but only the lobby seemed to have decent sound quality. Judging by the crowd's lack of enthusiasm, many seemed to share our sentiments about the performance.
Florence Welsh's unamped voice could have filled the entire auditorium on its own, showcasing her amazing vocal talents. The show's energy stayed true to their dramatic style, but unfortunately, it was overshadowed by the excessive amplification and distortion. It's disappointing that the sound techs and producers allowed this to happen.
Ultimately, we left the show early, missing out on "Dog Days." Even if we had stayed, the poor sound quality would have been a hindrance. It was a regrettable waste of $80 and a Friday evening.
